1940s Holophane bulkhead lights
A good run of English Holophane bulkhead wall lamps, of canted oblong design, with cast aluminium frames and prismatic glass diffusers-which are crisply moulded and have a matt/etched finish on the inside surface. The glass is marked Holophane,Made in England and has a patent number which was applied for in January 1939.The patent applies to the glass diffuser designed to reduce glare from the bulb from any viewing angle. The fittings are supplied cleaned inside and out with the original porcelain lampholders and in original paint(inside and out). The aluminium frames could be supplied polished if requested. They will be supplied with an earth terminal. Each has a threaded inlet at either end,one of which has a flush plug. They could be wired using these (and with a cord grip or cable gland screwed in or steel conduit) or it would be possible to drill a hole in the back if the cabling was to be hidden. Shown also are the internal Holophane circular prismatic glass reflectors. Not all the lamps retain these. These come from a large decommissioned canning factory in the Midlands. Very well made period light fittings in good condition which give out a great quality diffused non glare light. Dimensions in inches/cms; 11.75 / 29 by 7.25/18.5 by 5.5/14 high.
