Antique Riveted "Quencher" Tank / Log Bin
Great quality large antique galvanised / zinc plated iron tank of riveted construction with angled sides, handles and sitting on a reinforced cross strapped base and disc feet. Big shiny rivets! Made by DAVIES BROS & CO LTD, WOLVERHAMPTON (and bearing an oval brass makers label with this information and the founding date 1838). English, late 19th century. The firm was one of the first hot dip galvanising companies in the world. In excellent condition with no rust, dents, bends, looseness or losses. And no oil. The base is still strong and thick. It has been fully cleaned, polished and clear waxed inside and out. It retains its original paint which gives it a leather like look. It may have originated as a general purpose bin / tank but had been in use as a blacksmiths quenching tank. It would of course make a great fireside log bin and will last "forever" Dimensions in inches/cm; 39.5"/100cm max width including handles (37"/94cm without handles). 32"/82cm minimum width at base. 20"/51cm depth at top (17"/43cm depth at base) For more / higher res images please see my blog which can be accessed through the news section of this (haes) website.
